Recently, we were approached by a homeowner in Mereweather who was left frustrated by a faulty theatre room home automation system installed by one company and also an automated lighting and blinds system that was installed by a large well established Newcastle electrical company that also stated they do home automation systems. The home automation setup in their theatre room never worked from day one, despite being paid for in full and the lighting and blinds automation system could not be installed on any new phones or tablets due to the manufature not updating there app. Unfortunately, the homeowners were stuck with one unresponsive system and another that could not work on any new devices, this caused more headaches than convenience.

The original installation of the lighting and blinds system by the electrical company also had significant flaws. They had chosen a wireless system to control the lighting and electric blinds, but this should have not been the prefered method for this home. Since the house had been completely renovated, a wired solution would have been far more flexable reliable. Additionally, the automation system used outdated technology that was no longer supported by the manufacturer, leaving the homeowners with no option to control their blinds and lighting from new phones and tablets.

Fed up with the poor performance and outdated tech, the homeowners reached out to us to find a solution.

Our first step was to reassure the homeowners that something could be done to fix these issues. Given the extent of the problems, we recommended removing both systems entirely and starting over with a modern, reliable home automation solution.

We installed an ELAN home automation control system to control the entire house, along with the Fibaro system for lighting and blinds which intergrated into ELAN. This combination offered the reliability and flexibility the homeowners had been lacking, with seamless integration across all devices.

During the installation process, we discovered further complications. The air conditioning system had been integrated previously, but a compressor fault had led the aircon installers to incorrectly blame the home automation system. The homeowners had paid for aircon repairs out of pocket which should been warranty. We were able to re-integrate the air conditioning into the ELAN system—restoring full control again.

We also discovered that the gas fireplace in the downstairs entertainment room could be automated, so we integrated it into the ELAN system, allowing the homeowners to control the fireplace easily alongside the rest of their home’s automation.

The previous system also featured an overly complicated voice control setup, requiring separate commands for each blind. We suggested grouping the blinds together for more efficient control, reducing the number of commands and making the system far more user-friendly.

We also added voice control to turn the TV on and off in multiple rooms.
